Walking the Labyrinth
Walking the labyrinth is a personal experience; there is no right way or wrong way to walk. You only have to enter and follow the path. Adults are often serious in the path, while children tend to run in and out as fast as they can in a playful manner. As you walk, find your own pace. You may pass others, stop along the way at any point, and let others pass you. As you walk your body moves into a peaceful rhythm of contemplation.
Some Suggestions:
- Before walking, allow yourself some time to pause and acclimate to your surroundings. Catch your breath, and let the busyness of the world slip away.
- As you enter the labyrinth, clear your mind, focus on breathing and putting one foot in front of the other. Listen to what you are being invited to release or surrender.
- When you reach the center, listen; and receive any messages, answers, comfort, prayers, inspiration. Pause for a while and focus your attention. Stay as long as you choose.
- When you leave the center, follow the same path outward, or walk directly out. If you had a thought or an answer or inspiration, integrate the experience and relate it to your life. Pause once again at the threshold. Take a moment to sit quietly and reflect on your walk. Many people like to journal or draw their thoughts.
